Court: Small claims cases are filed in the Small Claims Department of the Circuit or Justice Court.
Jurisdictional Limit: $7,500.
Answer Period: Defendant must file an answer to the complaint within 14 days.
Attorney Representation: Only if the judge consents.
Eviction Cases: Eviction cases cannot be filed in small claims court.
Jury Trial: A defendant may request a jury trial if the claim is for more than $750.
