Small Claims
Court: Small claims cases are filed in the Small Claims Division of the District Court.
Jurisdictional Limit: $5,000.00
Answer Period: A defendant residing in the state may file an answer to the complaint within 20 days. Out-of-state defendants have 30 days.
Attorney Representation: Attorney representation is not allowed in small claims court.
Eviction Cases: Eviction cases cannot be filed in small claims court.
Jury Trial: Jury trials not permitted in small claims court.

– Written Contract: 5 years
– Oral Contract: 3 years
– Personal Injury: 3 years
– Real Property: 3 years
– Personal Property: 3 years
